In the ancient and traditional village of Prines just 6 km south from Rethymnon, this charmingly restored villa is tucked behind sun bleached high stone walls within spacious gardens, and is approached through a handsome arched wooden door set in the wall. It has been rebuilt to a very high standard both inside and out with its charming flagstone patios and rambling gardens, of 1200sqm, with colourful flowers, and trees. To further enhance this superb villa, there is a private swimming pool of 30sqm. The villa of 180sqm, is on two floors, all furnished and designed in a most authentic style. On the ground floor is a living room with traditional Cretan furniture, an open fireplace and a TV. The kitchen is fully equipped and has an old stone oven as well as an area for dining with large old wooden furniture to add to the warmth of atmosphere. Separately there is a utility room, which has a washing machine. There are also 2 double bedrooms on the ground floor, one of which has a raised double bed, with a small shower/WC, and the other has two beautiful antique cast iron bedsteads, wooden furniture and polished floor. Up a curving wooden staircase, on the first floor there are a further 2 bedrooms both of which have en-suite shower/WC and balconies with views over the village or the inner courtyard with its marble topped table and seating area. One of the bedrooms has 2 small double beds and the other has a beautiful old double bed. They are both well furnished with wardrobes and desks. The whole house has parquet floors and high beamed wooden ceilings. The villa is ideally suited for a group of up to 8 people who want a high standard of comfort and to be well away from the bustling tourist areas.
It is 3 km to the coast and 5 km to the nearest beach. There is a small choice of shops and kafenions in the village, with one of the best tavernas in the area to be found in the village of Atsipopoulo, 2 km away. Rethymnon offers a huge choice of shops, tavernas, sandy beaches and of course its wonderful atmospheric Venetian harbour quarter to explore. We do recommend a car.
