Hidden behind the 13thcentury Byzantine chapel that stands, watch over this charming old property, entering Villa Helidona is like walking into Aladin’s Cave. Once you pass through the beautiful stone courtyard and enter the main house, you are greeted with an array of antiques reminding you of the turbulent history of the island, as well as the old utilities of the yonder years used by the Cretan people. Though the furnishing of the villa is in keeping with its period, the owner “Dimitris” has ensured that you will find every modern comfort. The villa can accommodate 2-8 persons. The master bedroom with double bed and the living room with fireplace, TV and Video lead out to the completely private and peaceful terrace overlooking the splendid swimming pool (13mx6m/1.35mx2.2m), where it is rare to see the local swallows taking a dip. It is also the ideal place for barbequing. At the far end of the pool is an abundant orchard, vegetable and plants garden (1000m²) from which guests are welcome to help themselves. Swallows being the inspiration of the name of this property, the Greek meaning being “Helidona”.
The main door leads into the little kitchen with full cooker, fridge and freezer, dishwasher as well as the original marble sink. The kitchen leads into the dining room, with has a sunken sitting area with a mezzanine-sleeping gallery with two single beds over head. There is a separate bathroom/WC. The lower door leads you to a downstairs bathroom with shower and washing machine. On the first floor, with a separate outside entrance, are two inter-connecting bedrooms, one twin room leading into a double room.
The villa is located just 10min from the beach, 15min from the city of Heraklion and the airport and 20min from the minoan palace of Knossos. We consider a car to be essential.
