Arhontiko is a traditional apartment building, situated in the centre of Arhanes. Built in 1893, it is a fine example of 19th century inland Cretan architecture. The CAC (Central Archaeological Council) has characterized it as a protected traditional building. All of the ‘Arhontiko’ interiors are fitted with antiques, old embroideries and handmade furniture. The beautiful enclosed yard is an abundance of flowers and a multitude of colors and scents, the visitors can enjoy their coffee, tsikoudia and many more beverages made from the unique wild herbs gathered from the sacred mountain of Jiouktas or taste a thousand…and one treats prepared with care by the house owners. Arhontiko has three independent, fully equipped apartments that can accommodate2-4 people and operates throughout the year. Each apartment has one bedroom with old style steel beds, a spacious living area with fireplace and two sofa beds, a fully equipped kitchen and a bathtub/WC. Each apartment also has air condition, heating, Satellite TV, Radio, Telephone, Safety deposit box and hairdryer. Arhanes is a picturesque small town, built at an altitude of 308m and is 14km away from Heraklion.
Visit the various taverns and cafes at the central square to discover the world famous cretan cuisine or the exquisite Arhanes wines. A car is recommended.
